Artichoke in a glass
Revisiting some old favorites I haven’t made in many a moon (or solar turn) as I revitalize my Shabbat Cocktails blog on a new platform and with renewed energy. (If they were good the first time, won’t they be great again? Sometimes works for movies and books, and old friends.) This is not my own invention. It started out as the Aster Family Sour, from Jim Meehan. Eight years after I first tasted this, we had a variation on it at the Imperial Cocktail Bar in Tel Aviv a year ago that knocked our socks off. (When things open up, I highly recommend a visit.) Get a bottle of Cynar from a friend, and put 1.5 ounces of the dark, herbal liqueur into a shaker with 1 oz of lemon juice, 1/2 oz of orgeat (almond flavored drink ingredient) and 1 egg white (that’s what makes it a real sour – I only use eggs from pasture raised chickens).
